3 Job Profiles For Software Engineers To Explore Their Love For Writing In Software Industry

I have been working in Software Engineering for close to 15 years.

I have worn many hats and worked in niche-skilled jobs in the technology industry. Through the years though I have realized that I enjoy writing. Naturally, I started my search for opportunities close to my skill set that will allow me to spin up some words as part of my daily job.

These are the 3 profiles I found that require competency in writing and allow a software engineer to get a taste of being a content creator:

From the title, it may not seem like an obvious choice.

Though the primary skill required is more to deal with data and use technical expertise in Python, R and SQL to make sense of the oceans of data at their disposal. The final outcome requires skill in presentation, storytelling and effective writing.

This is a good profile to understand the data, research and learning skills required to effectively write a story from data.

The thrill to know that your writing is seen by anyone using a product is undeniable.

Products go through multiple stages of development and one of the early stages is user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design. A UX/UI designer is responsible for designing an ideal experience for the users of the product.

A UX/UI writer makes sure the content of the product is relatable and simple.

One of the popular ways for anyone to interact and learn about a product is through documentation.

A technical writer has the responsibility to understand the product and the underlying tech stack and create simplified documentation for users to consume.

Typically the user base here includes technical folks.
