What If?

What if female anopheles mosquitoes do not really want to bite us? What if it causes them great sorrow to see us suffer, but can't help being the source of our interminable pain and discomfort?

What if they do not even enjoy the taste of our blood, but lo and behold are forced to drink of it because they have to nourish their young? What if they would rather not bear their young, a laborious and toilsome ordeal enforced on them by nature?

What if they would rather not be female in the first place, the more hated of the mosquito genders. What if they'd rather be gender fluid? What if they believe that gender is basically a societal construct, and mosquitoes are just mosquitoes?

What if the characteristic whirling sound they make is actually a mourning ritual, a gnashing of wings, at the thorough terror of their lives?
