week 7 blog

I can relate to this weeks reading of the color purple because of celie. At the start of the color purple, celie lacked self love and expression but by the end of the novel and gained that and more. When I was younger I wasn't confident either and didnt know how valuable my life is. In the color purple, Celie starts to write letters to God as a way to express her thoughts and feelings. Through these letters, she finds her voice and begins to articulate her desires and dreams. I was the same way as celie and god was exactly what i needed to help me find out who i was. Celie also got a great friend which i feel like everyone needs in their life. she developed a close bond with Shug Avery, her husband’s mistress, who helps her to see her own worth and beauty. Through Shug, Celie learns to love and accept herself. Friends our important because they can help you get through hard times and for me personally, my friends motivate me and remind me where i come from.

Another reason i relate to celie is because she became independent and began putting herself before others and also began to love herself. Celie becomes more independent as she takes charge of her own life. She leaves her abusive husband and starts a business making pants. She also reunites with her sister Nettie, who had been separated from her for many years. When I began putting me first a lot of things took place for the better and i began to get happier and felt like i had a purpose.

The last thing I learned from celie was self acceptance. Celie learned to love and accept herself for who she is. She no longer sees herself as unworthy or inferior. Instead, she recognizes her own strength and resilience. when i finnaly accepted myself and grew to love all my flaws i began to live better and happier.
