Why Do We See Public Protests

People chanting to make their voice heard

Public protests are getting too common these days. We can see them in news or social media all around the world. Which makes me wonder, something must be terribly wrong with governments these days.

We live in an era where all kinds of governments are visible. We have socialism, we have so called democracy, we have authoritarians, we have dictators, we have military running a country. We have everything. Yet some how, all of the above seem to have accomplished to piss the mass people off. Which may seem unnatural at first sight, we will find reason and reality soon.

A while back, Catalonia, a self governed province in Spain, demanded independence. Not the kind they already had, the kind sovereign nations have. They failed of course. Who doesn’t when their cause goes against world powers? They did what they could, their leaders are imprisoned. But what I ponder upon here is that what more did they want? May be it was never about what they wanted. By they, I of course mean the mass people of Catalonia. May be it was about what their leaders wanted. May be they wanted to rule a free nation rather then rule a Spanish province. If this is the case, question must arise, how often is it like this? I say, 100 percent of the times.

If mass people are pouring down the streets, that means they have been convinced this is what they need to do. They have been convinced that they need something, regardless of what they originally think or believe. Mass people are used as pawn by forces so much less powerful then them. But it happens. So the thing to be concerned here is, if it is easy to motivate large group of people to come out on the street and protest, what meaning does democracy have? I say little. People can be influenced via social media, social workers, public speakers, politicians. They are easily deceived. Still we don’t have anything better then democracy. Which is frightening.

The developed countries will survive. Most of their fellow citizens are well educated. They read. Not just read, they study. They think. But if we take a look at the third world countries where the light of education hasn’t reached many regions, they my friend, are in trouble. They are most likely to have civil wars, foreign invasions, humanitarian crisis. In countries like these, legit cries for help are passed unnoticed. No one bothers to listen. Sometimes even the governments seem to have their hands tied.

This is why, people need to study. Not just to get decent jobs. Not just to feed their families. To feed their minds as well. To learn. To travel. To get to know other civilizations.

I have seen people like this. I have seen people with dreams. Once I read about a local salesmen and his wife. He used to sell hot tea in a small shop beside a busy street. He saved up from his limited earnings and travelled 23 countries with his wife. I admire him. I have rarely seen such vision in anyone. Only if more people were like him.

But there are things that demand massive public awakening. Such a thing is environment. we are running out of clean water, out of clean air to breath. Why not raise our voices today?

Anyway, a note must be taken. There are many oppressed territories in the world begging for peace. Like Beluchistan, Kashmir, Palestine. My original point against public protest doesn’t involve their legit demand for peace and independence. I believe, in todays world, where we seemingly have advanced so much that we are trying to break beyond our galaxy, human beings cannot be striped of their rights to live free.No matter what region, religion or race they belong to. This must not be acceptable. If we are to protest, we must do it in demand of a free and peaceful world. We must do it to save the planet we live in. We must do it to spread love. To spread passion.
