Bed Jumping Galore

I used to frown upon allowing my son to jump on his bed and sliding down the stairs on his butt. Now I realize, it releases energy and really isn’t hurting anyone. In today’s “new normal”, finding ways for my family to release energy while staying safe indoors has become essential.

My son is used to swinging on monkey bars, chasing his friends during recess and releasing energy all day long. As an only child staying safe at home, I have become his “playmate” and partly responsibly for creating fun, energy releasing activities at home.

It has taught me to have a different perspective on what is truly important within our home. Material things have way less relevance and value than smiles and laughter. I do still insist on no shoes while bed jumping but the occasional bounce doesn’t destroy anything.

Flexibility during the times of the pandemic is key. Although somewhat difficult for me, due to being an extreme creature of habit, I have discovered that in order to maintain my sanity, I must be flexible in all areas of life. I do, however, believe in structure and scheduling when it comes to getting things done or staying on task, but know that it’s not the end of all creation if we watch a movie on a Wednesday night.

In short, play balloon volleyball, eat popcorn for lunch occasionally, or play Scrabble out on the porch. Don’t forget to live, laugh, play, and create memories with your family even during these uncertain times.
